Male Pattern Hair Loss

At MetaDerm, we use platelet-derived technology, stem cell therapy, and low-level lasers to stimulate hair regrowth and effectively treat male pattern baldness.

Androgenic Alopecia, more commonly known as male pattern hair loss, affects adult men. It is a progressive hair loss caused by genetics and hormones. It begins with the shrinkage of hair follicles, leading to shorter and thinner hair. Early intervention can effectively arrest the hair loss progression and even cause hair regrowth.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is male pattern baldness?

Male pattern baldness, also known as androgenic alopecia, is the most common cause of hair loss in adult men, mostly over 50 years of age. Caused by genetics and hormones, it is a progressive condition that starts from the top and front of the head, causing the hair to thin and eventually fall off, resulting in baldness.

Deep cysts tend to be multiple and measure 1-2 mm in diameter, becoming more noticeable when the skin is stretched.

What causes male pattern baldness?

Androgen alopecia, or male pattern hair loss, is caused by a man’s hormones and genetics. The hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), derived from testosterone, can influence the hair follicles. It can decrease the growth phase of the follicles known as the anagen, which will cause the hair to become thinner and shorter. Over time, the follicles will stop growing new hair and start shrinking.

Male pattern baldness can also be genetic. The genes can influence the onset of hair loss, pattern, and severity. These genes can be derived from one or both parents. Other causes for male pattern hair loss include certain types of cancers, medications, issues with the thyroid, and steroids. Your dermatologist can perform the necessary tests and review your medical history to determine the exact cause.

How does topical minoxidil help with male pattern baldness?

Applying 5% minoxidil in either liquid or foam form can stimulate hair growth and even restore hair. Remember to massage the minoxidil only on the affected areas and not on the entire scalp, as it can cause side effects. Some common side effects of using minoxidil on unaffected areas include dryness, scaling, redness, and itching.

You may notice an increase in hair fall when you start the minoxidil treatment. Hair will start growing after some time. Minoxidil is effective only as long as you use it. Once you stop, the benefits will soon start disappearing.

How is male pattern baldness treated?

There is no permanent cure for male pattern hair loss. Timely interventions through effective treatments can slow down hair loss. Eventually, the hair loss will stop. MetaDerm is a hair loss specialist in Chennai offering medical and cosmetic solutions for male pattern hair loss.
